Local 1000 Election

Dear Local 1000
Member:
Thank you for the
honor of electing me as Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer of Local
1000 during the union election held in April 2005.
I also wish to
thank my fellow California State Employees United (CSEU) team members -
Tom Flynn, Sara Prieto and Nick Martinez. I am very grateful for their
hard work and dedication to the campaign.
Unfortunately, my
opponent filed an election protest and a committee hand-picked by my
opponent's running mate sustained the protest and ordered new elections
for the office to which you elected me. I strongly disagree with
the committee's decision. Unfortunately, we were unable to get
any administrative or legal relief in time to stop the election.
My opponent and
her supporters poured a lot of resources to get her elected. There were
some indications that union funds and/or resources may have been used
towards this effort. As a result, my opponent prevailed but barely got
elected, despite the massive get-out-the vote campaign they mounted.
I filed a protest
in the rerun election. But as was expected, the same protest committee
that overturned the first election results rejected my appeal.
It now appears
that our only recourse is to file legal action to compel Local 1000 to
honor the results of the original election held in April 2005.
We are organizing
to mount this legal challenge and we need your help -
financially and in terms of mobilizing our members to take back
our union.
I hope we can
count on you to join us in this important struggle. We cannot succeed
without your help.
Please stay tuned
as this matter progress.
In unity,
KATHLEEN COLLINS
